Chiropractic & Medical Acupuncture FAQ’s

What can I expect on my first visit?

The detailed health history form that you have completed will be reviewed together with the Chiropractor followed by a comprehensive physical assessment. The Chiropractor will advise you if additional testing, ie. x-rays, blood work, is required. Your first visit lasts approximately 60 minutes and includes time to initiate treatment.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Loose, comfortable clothing is ideal. For treatment of the hip or knee please bring shorts. For treatment of shoulder complaints please wear a tank top or sports bra when appropriate.

How long are follow-up visits?

Most subsequent visits are 20 minutes, but follow up appointments of 30 minutes or 40 minutes in length may be recommended depending on what is required in your individual situation.

What is your Late Policy & Cancellation Policy?

Patients are responsible for the time they reserve for their appointment. If you are late for your appointment, we will gladly do as much as possible for you in the time remaining but please note that the treatment will still end at the designated time and you will be charged the full fee.

We require 2 business days notice for any cancellations. Please note cancellations with less than 2 business days notice, or missed appointments, will be charged a cancellation fee. The cancellation fee is the cost of the appointment booked.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

No. Chiropractors are primary health care providers and a doctor’s referral is not necessary.

Is chiropractic/acupuncture safe?

Research continues to support the safety and efficacy of both chiropractic and acupuncture care.

Do I have to have my neck adjusted?

No! After a thorough history and examination, your Chiropractor will discuss your treatment options with you. There are alternatives to neck adjustments that some people prefer.

Does acupuncture hurt?

For most, acupuncture is painless. Some may feel a little prick when the needle is first inserted. Resting with needles in is very relaxing for most.

Is acupuncture covered by my health insurance?

Insurance companies cover acupuncture treatments provided by a Chiropractor, when billed as chiropractic. There have been cases where the insurance company will cover acupuncture as an acupuncture benefit, so we encourage you to speak directly with your insurance company to clarify exactly what your individual benefits include.

Do you offer direct billing?

We do not bill insurance companies directly. Receipt of payment is provided for submission to your insurer including the details necessary for reimbursement.

How soon will I be better?

Whether your problem is acute or chronic, there are many factors that impact how quickly your symptoms resolve, including your general health and past health and injury history, as well as your lifestyle. Your treatment and rehabilitation plan are geared to your unique situation to ensure the fastest results possible.
